Stage 5: Teams

Organize your students into teams with custom names. Teams are visualized on your class dashboard, grouping student avatars together for easy classroom management. Teams also integrate with Monster Battle Adventures, allowing you to randomly pick a team or the whole class to answer questions instead of only individual students.

Prerequisites:

Independent System

You can enable Stage 5 without enabling any other stage. Teams work alongside all other features but don't depend on them.

Enabling Teams

To activate the teams system:

  1. Go to Class Settings → Features
  2. Enable "Teams"
  3. Save changes

Once enabled, a new Teams tab appears in your class configuration panel.

Default Teams

When teams are first enabled, default teams of 3 to 5 students are automatically created based on your class size:

Just a Starting Point

The default teams are just a starting point. You can rename, add, or remove teams, and reassign students however you like.

Managing Teams

Navigate to Class Settings → Teams to manage your teams.

Creating a Team

  1. Type a name in the input field
  2. Click "Add Team" (or press Enter)

Editing a Team Name

Click on any team name to edit it inline.

Deleting a Team

  1. Click the trash icon on the team card
  2. Confirm the deletion in the dialog

Students from a deleted team become unassigned — they are not removed from your class.

Assigning Students to Teams

Students can be moved between teams using drag-and-drop in the Teams configuration panel:

  • Drag a student to a team card — assigns them to that team
  • Drag a student onto another student — swaps the team assignments between the two students
  • Drag a student to "Unassigned Students" — removes them from their current team

Teams and students highlight during drag to show valid drop targets.

Dashboard Visualization

When teams are enabled, your class dashboard groups students by team:

  • Each team is displayed as a bordered group with the team name as a header
  • A team-level checkbox lets you select or deselect all students in a team at once (useful for giving rewards to a whole team)
  • Teams are sorted alphabetically
  • Unassigned students appear in a separate "No team" group

When teams are disabled, students display in the original flat grid layout.

Monster Battle — Team & Class Picks

Teams unlock new pick types in Monster Battle Adventures. Instead of only picking individual students to answer questions, you can also pick entire teams or the whole class.

Pick Types

Teachers toggle which pick types are active in the battle setup screen under "Randomly pick from":

Pick TypeWhat Happens
StudentA random individual student is picked to answer (original behavior)
TeamA random team is picked — the whole team answers together
Whole ClassThe entire class answers together

At least one pick type must remain enabled. During battle, each question randomly selects from the enabled pick types.

How Rewards Are Distributed

  • Individual pick — the student receives full credit for a correct answer
  • Team pick — the correct-answer reward is split equally among non-absent team members
  • Class pick — the correct-answer reward is split equally among all non-absent students

Fractional rewards are rounded up per student. The end-of-battle reward summary shows each student's accumulated rewards.

Mix Pick Types

Enabling all three pick types keeps things unpredictable and encourages both individual preparation and teamwork. Students never know if they'll be called on alone, with their team, or as a whole class!

Powers — Team Targeting

When teams are enabled, powers gain two additional configuration options: target and usage reward.

Target

The target setting controls who is affected by a power's effects (experience, health, gold). This is configured via a dropdown in the power's effects panel.

TargetLabelWho Is Affected
SelfSelfOnly the student who uses the power (default)
Anyone in the teamAnyAny one team member, including the caster
Other person on teamOtherOne other team member (not the caster)
All team membersAllEvery member of the caster's team, including the caster
All other team membersOthersEvery team member except the caster

A team icon with a short target label is shown on the effects button for powers that have non-zero effects.

Team Power Ideas

Create powers that encourage teamwork! For example, a "Heal Teammate" power could restore health to another team member, or a "Team Boost" power could give experience to all team members.

Usage Reward

Powers with effects also gain a usage reward field when teams are enabled. This is an experience reward given to the student who casts the power, separate from the power's target effects.

This allows you to incentivize team-supportive behavior — for example, a "Heal Teammate" power could restore health to another team member while also granting the caster a small experience bonus for helping out.

Disabling Teams with Team-Targeted Powers

If you disable teams while powers with non-Self targets exist:

  • Config panel: Team-targeted powers are shown in a separate "Disabled powers" section with reduced opacity, displaying only name, mana cost, and target. They cannot be edited in this state.
  • Student-facing: Team-targeted powers are hidden — students cannot see or use them.
  • Data preserved: The target setting and usage reward remain saved. When you re-enable teams, all original configurations reappear.
